According to Healthcare IT News, Allscripts, Cerner and Epic are making their electronic health record system programming interfaces more available to enable new apps to improve long-term care. Open APIs (application programming interface, are technical protocols that enable third-party software programs to interact with an application). Open APIs are necessary to enable new applications, like Admit+, the digital admissions and management platform, to integrate with EHRs. LincWare is leveraging the open interfaces on these EHRs to provide real time information to LTC communities to make better decisions on the residents that they accept.
“It’s good business for the EHR companies to allow software developers like LincWare to integrate applications with EHRs,” says Darren Mathis, chief executive officer, LincWare. “Open APIs will improve the long-term care landscape by enabling new applications that can improve productivity, and ultimately, lower costs for patients.”
